Real democracy means we decide

↑ A people's assembly facilitated by Folkets Ting

Folkets Ting is creating people's assemblies in Demark, where we can come together and make decisions about the things that are important to us, and get the country to run based on those decisions.

We want to build up a version of democracy that brings power back to the people, so we can create the society we want to live in together.

Denmark already has some assemblies, but they are rare, and the results of these assemblies can be ignored by elected politicians. Instead, we want to work bottom up, to create people's assemblies with real power.

How it works

Folkets Ting helps your community host people's assemblies. These are events where people get together, choose a topic, discuss it, and make decisions. The topic could be, for example, whether a road should be built, or how rent should be priced.

We don't wait for permission from government to make these decisions. We run the assemblies ourselves, and we make sure that the decisions lead to action.

The events can also be used to share knowledge, strengthen relationships, and build collective strength to make changes.

The result of the decision can be put into practice through various tactics:

Our timeline

Folkets Ting was founded in 2025, and has hosted one people's assembly in Tårnby. Currently, we are planning our strategy and structure, so that we are ready to bring more people into the team and host more people's assemblies. We plan to host three more people's assemblies in Copenhagen during 2026, learning with each one how to make the assemblies run as well as possible.

From there, we plan to grow our organisation, hosting even more people's assemblies throughout Denmark and pushing for their decisions to be put into practice.

Get involved

We welcome new joiners to our working groups any time. Whoever you are, there will be a role for you. Here's a little overview of the different teams you could be part of:

A diagram showing the structure of Folkets Ting. There are two circles. The circle on the left shows the working groups, and the circle on the right shows the internal assembly. In the working group circle, there are smaller circles with the following titles: Assemblies, Research, Care, Training, Communication, Outreach, Finance and Coordination. The Coordination Group updates the internal assembly on implementation, and the internal assembly steers the overall assembly. The Coordination Group is made up of one person from each other working group.
